The singer, who has not worked with the veteran boyband since 1995, apparently met up with them for Mark Owen's stag do.
According to The Mirror, Williams also visited Electric Lady Studios to "thrash out new material" with the group.
"He is back with Take That in the studio and they're all writing together again. Robbie wouldn't be happy performing old Take That songs that he has had no part in," said a source.
"But if they can pen new tracks that they're all happy with, they'll record them and he'll be back with them on stage."
A Take That spokesperson told DS: "These reports of Robbie joining the band in the studio are unconfirmed. The band are out there approving final mixes for their first ever live album called The Greatest Day out November 30."
Williams revealed during recent interviews that he was interested in working with his former band again, admitting that their recent 'Circus' tour was one of "the best shows [he'd] ever seen".
The 'Angels' singer makers his solo live comeback next month at the Camden Roundhouse, where he is performing as part of the BBC Electric Proms.
His new album Reality Killed The Video Star is released on November 9. It is preceded by lead single 'Bodies' on October 12.
