Muse, Powderfinger to head up Big Day Out

Muse and Powderfinger will headline next year's Big Day Out in Australian and New Zealand, it has been announced.

The annual music festival, which takes place in Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Auckland and has previously starred Nirvana, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Prodigy, kicks off on January 15 next year.

Both headline acts have new material; Muse recently released their The Resistance album and the Australian rockers are due to bring out their seventh album, Golden Rule, in November.

Also appearing are Lily Allen, Eskimo Jo, Kasabian, The Mars Volta, Groove Armada, Grinspoon and The Horrors.

There were rumours on Twitter that David Bowie would be making appearance but these have since been confirmed as false.
