The R&B singer, who presents the MOBO Awards in Glasgow tonight, admitted that she "admired" the 'Love Lockdown' star despite him ruining Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the event.
"Kanye's a very confident man but not arrogant. He's just very open and honest," she told the Daily Star.
"People aren't used to seeing such an unguarded artist. I admire the hell out of how gutsy he is."
Hilson, who teamed up with West on recent single 'Knock You Down', insisted that artists should not shy away from being honest about other music.
"The world isn't used to hearing what an artist really feels about himself or other people's music."
The MOBO awards are broadcast live on BBC3 at 8.30pm.
