Sister La Toya took to the stage and described Michael Jackson as "the biggest star the world has ever seen", promising that his music will live on for generations.
"He was the biggest artist of all time, transcending all barriers, may they be social, racial or generational," she said.
"He inspired, shocked and amazed with equal measure and he continued to dare all of us to build a bigger dream. There will never ever be another person like him.
"He lived on through his video, he lived on through his movies, but above all and most importantly, he will live on through is music."
La Toya then introduced her brother Jermaine, who performed a version of 'Smile'.
"My brother was everything to me. He was a wonderful artist and a wonderful human being," he said.
"I'm here to do what I can, it is part of our responsibility as a family to continue his legacy and keep it alive."
JLS, N-Dubz and Beyoncé were the big winners on the night, each winning two gongs at the ceremony.
