D:Ream reunion 'happened by chance'
Al Mackenzie from '90s band D:Ream has revealed that the group's reunion happened by chance.

Speaking to Kevin Wright on Radio Scilly, the musician said that he and singer Peter Cunnah had not seen each other for 15 years when they accidentally met in a London park in 2008.

He said: "I had been out, let's say partying, for most of the night and ended up in a park just chilling, for want of a better word. And Peter came out in the morning with his children to use the swings, I presume. He saw me and had a bit of a row with his wife. I believe he thought it was me, she didn’t, and he went off and came back later on and just sort of shouted at me.

"I went over, it was a bit 'oh hello, what’s going on here?', and we just sort of said let's go in the studio, which we did do after about six weeks or so and just thought we could have a little go at stuff. That was over a year-and-a-half ago now."

However, Mackenzie, 40, insisted that the duo had no interest in reliving the past when they made the decision to reform.

"I’ve got no real interest in the nostalgia sh*t, 'cos we’re trying purely to promote the new stuff and the old stuff [has] done its job anyway, it’s done its time," he said. "I just thought it was something to do and I always thought that we would [make] some good music if we were making it together."

D:Ream had a number one hit with 'Things Can Only Get Better' in 1994, which was famously used as the Labour Party's theme for the 1997 election. They also had two further top ten hits and two top ten albums.

The band are currently recording a new LP for release in January 2010. Single 'All Things To All Men' is out now.
