Mark Edward O'Keefe said that he met the Australian singer in a Sydney pub, where they discussed the music industry and the importance of musicians retaining control of their work.
He then said that the pair wrote the song together on the back of some drinks coasters.
The court heard that O'Keefe originally claimed to have co-created the song in 1989 after discussing the death of Lloyd's mother, but after learning that she did not die until 1991, he changed the date of their meeting.
The case continues.
