The legendary hip-hop icon has been working on the record - his first since 1999's 2001 - for over a decade and previously promised fans that it would be available before the end of 2009.
However, the star is believed to still be unhappy with the LP and is now looking at a 2010 release in order to give him more time to perfect the tracks.
He told ABC News: "I've been working on [the album] for the last ten years. Hopefully I'll get it done at the end of this year and we can hear it next year."
The rapper recently revealed a snippet of his new material on a Dr Pepper advert.
