Love Is The Answer, an album of jazz standards produced by Diana Krall, sold 180,000 copies last week to debut at the summit of the Billboard 200.
It becomes Streisand's ninth US No.1 album - more than any other female artist - and first since 1997.
Paramore's Brand New Eyes lands at two after selling 175,000 copies, while Carey's Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel bows at three on sales of 168,000.
Meanwhile, Madonna has to settle for a number seven debut with her Celebration compilation.
