The R&B star, who is currently at number one in the US Billboard Hot 100 with 'Down', admitted that he never expected to be so successful Stateside.
"I'm just a science geek at heart - it's amazing that I've been so successful in America but I'd rather be reading New Scientist than hitting the town," he told PA.
The popstar also confessed that he was at home in Britain when he heard that he had finally ended Black Eyed Peas' sixth-month reign at the top of the US charts.
"I was at home in Hounslow when the news came in that I had gone to number one. It was amazing," he said.
"We popped a few bottles that night to celebrate. Then I had to get on a plane back to New York and I popped a few more then.
"I can't walk around Hounslow without everyone congratulating me on doing so well. Word spreads fast, man."
Sean recently claimed that he is hoping to help launch Keisha Buchanan as a solo artist following her departure from British girlband Sugababes.
