Frontwoman Alison Mosshart - who is also the singer in The Kills - revealed that the follow-up to 2009 debut Horehound could be completed before the end of the year.
"In between now and Christmas I'm going to go back to [Jack White's studio in] Nashville at some point. I think I'll spend most of December in America and finish the second record. So there will be more," she told Radio 1 Newsbeat.
"[The songs] sound great. I really like them. We've been playing three or four of them on stage, so they keep changing all the time."
With the band scheduled to start their UK tour on October 19, the singer added that she is stunned by how much The Dead Weather have achieved in their first year together.
"The last year has been incredible," she said. "I never knew it was going to go like this. We never planned to be a band. Certainly I didn't think we'd be so busy and that things would go so well."
