The singer's record label confirmed the news but has not yet divulged any details of Maher's death, NME reports.
Flowered Up were a London-based baggy band who were best known for their 13-minute 1992 single 'Weekender' and its accompanying W.I.Z.-directed video.
The group released their sole album A Life With Brian in 1991 and split up in 1994.
Keyboard player Tim Dorney later went on to form Britpop group Republica, while Maher signed to Alan McGee's Poptones label in 2001.
