Almost 7 million U2 fans logged on to watch the band play live via the internet.

The Irish rockers streamed their show from California's Pasadena Rose Bowl on video-sharing website YouTube yesterday.

At the beginning of the sold-out performance, singer Bono said: "Thank you Los Angeles. Thanks to everyone watching on YouTube all over the world - seven continents!"

Gigwise reports that YouTube plans to reair the concert at a future date.
