Peter Gabriel announces covers album

Peter Gabriel has revealed plans to release an orchestral covers album, which will include songs by Radiohead, Arcade Fire and Elbow.

Entitled Scratch My Back, the LP will be a "song swap" with a host of "extremely legendary artists" covering each other's material.

"The songs are not simply covers," Gabriel collaborator John Metcalfe told BBC 6 Music. "They are major reinterpretations of some famous stuff. It's quite radical."

Although the record is not expected until spring 2010, a tentative tracklisting has been released by a Japanese distributor.
