The R&B singer, who dismissed speculation that she had been dropped from her record label, announced the decision to split from Interscope on her Twitter page, reports Angry Ape.
Knowles said: "Although it's been a wonderful journey and experience at Interscope Records, after truly recognising what's important to me as an artist, I decided it was time for me to continue my path on a more independent platform.
"I thank Ron Fair and Jimmy Lovine for believing in me as an artist and supporting my journey... and have nothing but respect for the Interscope family.
"I'm excited about continuing to dive in, experiment and creating music and art with no boundaries, fears or expectations. Gonna be fun folks."
She added: "Thank u all so much for all supportive comments coming through. Gonna really be up to you guys to carry on the spirit of the music."
