Cilmi: 'New direction for new album'
Gabriella Cilmi has revealed that she has gone in a "totally new direction" on her upcoming second album.

The Australian singer admitted that she experimented with elements of '80s disco on the follow-up to debut Lessons To Be Learned, which was released in March 2008.

"The album is now being mixed and it's in a totally new direction," she told the Daily Star.

"It's been inspired by Donna Summer, Flashdance and '80s disco. The '80s sound is popular at the moment but I'm doing part of the era that hasn't been touched. It also has a slightly '70s feel and that is my favourite era."

The 18-year-old, who worked with writers including Xenomania and Greg Kurstin on the new record, claimed that she took a relaxed approach to recording sessions.

"Most of the material for the album was written in a studio five doors up from my place when I was in my pyjamas," she said.

Cilmi recently revealed that she has also penned material with Dallas Austin for the album.
