The singer, who is reportedly worth an estimated £400 million ($667m), admitted that he tries to help out good causes in his free time.
Speaking at the launch of Nike's 'Lace Up, Save Lives' campaign, which aims to raise awareness and funds for the (Red) charity, Bono said: "I am very well paid, overpaid and even over-rewarded for what I do."
The charity event was attended by a number of football stars and Bono added: "These guys are very wealthy. But a lot of these soccer guys are giving something back and they don't need to do that."
U2 were recently confirmed to headline the 40th Glastonbury Festival next year.
