Ellie Goulding
The list, which recognises "15 of the best rising music stars" who are "new to the British public", features seven other UK solo artists: soul singer Rox, rapper Giggs, Essex pop starlet Daisy Dares You, dance producer Joy Orbison, electropop singer-songwriter Gold Panda and grime artist Devlin.
A trio of Manchester bands appear on the list – Hurts, Delphic and Everything Everything – alongside Northern Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club and Oxford five-piece Stornoway.
The list is completed by a pair of US acts, New York quartet The Drums and synth-pop soloist Owl City, who has already topped the American charts with his track 'Fireflies'.
The acts were chosen by a panel of 165 UK-based "tastemakers" – a selection of magazine editors, music writers, DJs and producers – each of whom selected their three favourite new artists. The 15 acts with the most votes have made it onto this year's longlist.
Previous recipients of the accolade include Mika, Adele and Keane, while last year's prize was won by Little Boots.
The top five and winner will be announced in early January.
