Weiland: 'STP almost finished new album'

The Stone Temple Pilots have almost wrapped up recording their new album.

The band recently cancelled their remaining 2009 tour dates in order to concentrate on finishing the disc with producer Don Was.

"There will probably be 11 songs on the record and we have nine completed already. Then you have to have B-sides for Japan, the UK and the rest of Europe, so we'll probably record 14 songs total," Weiland told Spinner.

The CD's release is targeted for spring 2010, but the group are still embroiled in a legal battle with their former label Atlantic Records. The company claims that STP's contract calls for at least one more album, plus an additional two if Atlantic wants them.

However, the rockers believe that they are free from contractual obligations after using a California regulation to terminate a document written under New York law.
