Public Enemy are reportedly struggling to fund their new album via fan investment after raising just over $70,000 (£43,317) of their $250,000 (£154,704) target.

The rap collective, who signed a deal with fan-funding engine SellaBand in October, are attempting to raise the money to record and release the as-yet-untitled album.

Despite taking over $50,000 (£30,941) during the first few weeks of their appeal, the group are still $180,000 (£30,941) short of their total.

'Believers', as Sellaband call fans who get involved, can invest in increments of $25 (£15) in exchange for copies of the LP and limited edition T-shirts. Bigger contributions can lead to executive producer credits and studio visits.
