The singer revealed on the band's new rockumentary No Distance Left To Run, which premiered in London last night, that single 'Beetlebum' is about heroin use.
"That whole period of a lot of people's lives was fairly muddied by heroin. It's in that place. A lot of stuff was at that time," he said.
Albarn went on to admit that he smoked a lot of marijuana when the group first disbanded in 2003.
"I went on a fantastic voyage of discovery. I spent a lot of time in Africa just getting to know people and getting very, very stoned," he said.
Last September, bandmate Graham Coxon revealed that the group have no further plans to reunite following a string of live dates over the summer.
