It was reported earlier this week that the Tennessee rockers were too busy playing the sport to work on fresh material.
However, responding to the rumours in an XFM interview, band member Jared Followill said: "I can deny it! I can tell you that I gave up golf probably about two years ago. I figured that if I wanted to throw away money and get p*ssed off, I'll just go to Vegas.
"Nathan does play golf, so that's probably where they got it. But it's freezing here right now, so he hasn't played in two or three months."
He continued: "If anything's delaying the record, it's the fact that we're really cosy at home. But we're actually starting that next week. We don't even have a studio picked out yet, but we're going to start the writing and getting some of the arrangements together and stuff like that."
The stars had previously announced that they intended to take a six-month break before returning to work on their fifth studio album.
