The Kala singer-rapper has written a response to a recent article written by The New York Times, titled 'The 31 Places to Go in 2010', which listed Sri Lanka at number one. M.I.A., whose family has Sri Lankan Tamil roots, blasted the newspaper on Twitter for listing the country as the top destination spot for the year.
M.I.A. has since posted a graphic photograph reportedly depicting victims of the country's civil war between the Tamil and the Sinhalese government, countering the Times images of a "scenic" Sri Lanka.
The 34-year-old wrote: "Here is the lush coastline they are talking about."
According to the singer's publicist, M.I.A. has claimed that the newspaper "f**ked up so hard".
M.I.A.'s as-yet-untitled third album is scheduled to be released this summer.
