Billy Idol for Aerosmith auditions?

Billy Idol has reportedly been considered to replace Steven Tyler as Aerosmith's lead singer.

The US rockers recently revealed that they will be holding auditions to find a new frontman following Tyler's admission to rehab.

According to Classic Rock magazine, 'White Wedding' star Idol had arranged to meet with the band but later pulled out after falling ill.

A source said: "Joe [Perry] said he wanted to talk to Billy about joining Aerosmith, because the band were having problems with Steven. As far as I know, Idol did not show up due to having a cold."

Other candidates believed to be in line for the role include Lenny Kravitz and former Queen singer Paul Rodgers.
