The late musician's widow Barbara and his three sons accepted the accolade on Friday at a ceremony attended by Eric Idle, Chris Isaak and Dan Aykroyd.
Orbison, who died from a heart attack at the age of 52 in 1988, had 1960s hits with songs such as 'Only The Lonely', 'Pretty Woman', and 'Crying'.
He found further chart success with The Travelling Wilburys, who took the UK's number one spot in 2007 with their Greatest Hits LP.
According to the BBC, Aykroyd paid tribute to the Texan-born star at the event, describing him as a great balladeer and rock 'n' roller.
