WENN
The 21-year-old, who finished fifth representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest last year, admitted that she struggled to launch a solo career following the competition.
"I did wonder what I would be getting into, yes. My career wasn't exactly taking off, was it? I needed an opportunity," Contactmusic quotes her as saying.
Ewen's Eurovision single 'It's My Time' peaked at number 27 in May 2009, while her follow-up 'My Man' made it to 35 the same week that she replaced Keisha Buchanan in the Sugababes.
Bandmate Amelle Berrabah added that she was impressed with Ewen's vocal talents before she joined the group.
"We'd heard of Jade, of course, and we knew that she had this fantastic voice... but we'd never met the girl before, so we didn't really know her," she said.
Sugababes release latest single 'Wear My Kiss' on February 22. Their album Sweet 7 is out on March 8.
