Guitarist Joe Perry declared last month that the US rockers were hoping to hold try-outs for prospective frontmen in the near future in order to resume the world tour that was stalled when Tyler checked into rehab last year.
However, Tyler's attorney Skip Miller is believed to have written to Aerosmith's management demanding that they put a hold on proceedings to replace him.
In the letter obtained by Billboard, Miller requested the band "immediately cease and desist from engaging in acts and conduct to the harm and detriment of your own client, Aerosmith, and our client who is one of its members".
He further stated that Tyler has reserved his right to pursue "legal action for damages and other appropriate relief". Miller also went on to declare a meeting of Aerosmith's "shareholders" next month to discuss the group's future album and tour plans.
