Katie Melua working with Madonna producer

Katie Melua has teamed up with producer William Orbit for her new album.

The '9 Million Bicycles' singer reportedly wanted to update her sound with the help of Madonna's former producer.

Discussing progress on the record, Orbit told the Daily Star: "I'm just putting the finishing touches to Katie's album. It's a very different sound for her.

"She sent me some songs a while ago and I fell in love with her voice. We've had a really good time doing it. She's got the raw talent that I like."

Orbit produced Madonna's 1998 album Ray Of Light and has since worked with acts including Robbie Williams, Blur, Sugababes and All Saints.

Melua is scheduled to release her as-yet-untitled new album in May 2010.
