The Gavin & Stacey comic, who hosted the ceremony last year with Mathew Horne and Kylie Minogue, also said he would prefer to present the show alone.
The 31-year-old actor, who has allegedly fallen out with his comedy partner Horne, told The Sun: "It definitely works better with one host. It's the job I want!"
The star, who received mixed reviews from critics after the 2009 gig, added: "After watching Peter Kay I'm sure I could do better. Bring it on! Peter was good but he could have been even more enthusiastic."
Kay, who hosted the awards on Tuesday, is now embroiled in a spat with former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher.
