The singer, who topped the US Billboard Hot 100 with 'Down', admitted that he didn't think he would be recognised by other celebrities.
"When I was number one, I had a feeling people would be looking at the charts going, 'Who the f**k is Jay Sean?' It was a bit nerve-wracking," he told The Sun.
"But when I went to the Grammys I met everyone in one go. Jay-Z told me he knew my music and said he and Beyoncé had my CD.
"Then Fergie from Black Eyed Peas came up to me and said, 'Congratulations, you knocked us off number one'. It was one of the most surreal experiences of my life."
Jay Sean released new single 'Do You Remember?' today.
