The 28-year-old, who rose to fame as a garage MC before finding success in the pop charts, affirmed that the UK underground is still flush with talent.
He said: "The scene is blowing up right now. I've loved watching how Chipmunk, Jay, Tinie Tempah, Skepta and Kano's perseverance has paid off and how they've gone from underground to mainstream."
David went on to claim that contemporary artists have an easier time finding an audience thanks to social networking sites.
He added to the Daily Star: "When I started out you had to be physically out there, doing live shows and promoting because there was no MySpace getting your music out to the world."
