Sharleen Spiteri has confirmed that Texas are working on a new album.

The Scottish pop group have been absent from the release schedules since 2006, during which time Spiteri has released two solo records, 2008's Melody and The Movie Songbook, which came out earlier this month.

Last year, the group's guitarist Ally McErlaine suffered a brain aneurysm, but he has since made a full recovery and is keen to return to work.

"Doctors were telling us he wouldn't survive it, but luckily he has and he's absolutely fighting fit," Spiteri told Digital Spy. "He's out of hospital and chomping at the bit to make another record. It's been a weird journey with this one, but we're absolutely dying to make the next Texas record."

However, Spiteri refused to be drawn on when the album might be released.

"As for when it's going to be ready, I don't know. Sometimes you can write a hundred songs for an album, whereas sometimes you write ten and that's it. We've written a few songs and we're getting there slowly," she said.

Texas have released seven studio albums since making their debut with 1989's Southside. In that time, they have notched up 13 top ten hits with singles including 'Say What You Want', 'Black Eyed Boy' and 'In Demand'.
