Trophy crasftsman Stuart Allcock, of Taunton, Somerset, said he felt "dizzy" on the phone when he took the call. "I thought it might be a joke and said, 'Is this Bono?'," said Allcock, who attended his first U2 gig in 1987.
The Grammy, awarded for The Joshua Tree, is thought to have been dropped and was in three pieces.
Allcock told The Daily Telegraph that although working on the iron statue was nerve-wracking, he was pleased with the final result and thrilled to have been approached for the job.
"If it wasn't a U2 Grammy, I wouldn't pay a fiver. But it's priceless," he said, when asked about its worth.
