Patti Smith to receive lifetime award

Patti Smith is to receive the 'Founder's Award' at the ASCAP pop music awards dinner.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the punk rocker, poet and author will also perform at the event.

"She expanded the boundaries of artistic expression, musically and otherwise, inspiring generations of rockers worldwide," Paul Williams, the ASCAP president and CEO, said in a statement.

"She continues to be a vibrant, prolific artist, working in a wide variety of media," he added.

Past winners of the award include Joni Mitchell and Paul McCartney. The dinner will be held on April 21.
