The single also marks the rock band's comeback after a three-year break.
Rihanna's 'Rude Boy' slips to three after a fortnight at the top, while David Guetta holds steady at four with 'Memories'.
Meanwhile, Cheryl Coles '3 Words' jumps from ninth to fifth position, and Lady GaGa's 'Telephone' creeps into the top ten, moving from 11 to nine.
Outside of the top ten, Timbaland and Katy Perry continue to climb up the chart, rising from 14 to 11 with 'If We Ever Meet Again', while Black Eyed Peas' 'Imma Be' jumps from 17 to 12.
