Akon sparks riot in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankans outraged by Akon's 'desecration' of a statue of the Buddah have protested against his upcoming concert in Colombo.

The R&B singer has come under fire from locals who have taken offence to his video for 'Sexy Chick', which features groups of near-naked women dancing at a pool party in front a Buddah statue.

Sri Lanka's Sinhalese ethnic majority are mainly Buddhists.

According to Billboard, around 200 Sri Lankans protested by throwing stones at the head office of the Maharaja Organisation, which is sponsoring the gig.

"Four workers suffered injuries that were not serious," said Chevan Daniel, head of news at Maharaja broadcasting.

"The stones shattered some of the office's windows and damaged several vehicles parked outside the building."
