Bernard Sumner has suggested that he and the rest of New Order were as vital to the original Haçienda nightclub as bassist Peter Hook.

Hook and Sumner fell out in 2007 during the band's second split and Hook has since launched a nightclub named Fac 251 at the site of Factory Records' old Manchester offices.

Sumner told The Quietus: "What do I think of his club? Good luck to him you know. Let him do his own thing. You know, if that's what he wants to do, then that's fine. I don't mind that at all.

"Yet it seems an odd thing to do after complaining about all the money he lost from the Haçienda first time round. But good luck to him, yeah."

When asked if he had read Hook's recent book The Haçienda: How Not To Run A Club, Sumner replied: "His book? His book about our club? No, I haven't.

"He basically purchased the name the Haçienda from the receivers when it went bust, so it's become Peter Hook's Haçienda now. Apparently.

"Money talks. But believe you me, me, Steve [Morris] and Gillian [Gilbert] did have something to do with the original Factory as well. There were other people involved."
