The neo-soul singer has insisted that she spends as much time on telling "a story" with her music as with her lyrics.
Speaking to Paste, the 39-year-old said: "[The new album is] very analogue. After I recorded digitally and dumped everything back onto two-inch tape, it made me think of some of the older things that moved me in that kind of way.
"I tend to want to tell a story sonically as much as I do lyrically."
New Amerykah Part Two (Return Of The Ankh) is to be released on Monday.
