Frontman James Allan told NME that it was McKay's decision to quit the 'Flowers & Football Tops' rockers and that the split was amicable.
He added that the remaining members are "really sad" to see her go.
"We are really sad that Caroline has decided to leave as she is one of the coolest drummers around," Allan said. "But we respect her decision and say goodbye with all our love and luck".
Glasvegas are currently in Los Angeles writing their second album.
