Pete Doherty has claimed that reuniting with The Libertines has been "quite upsetting".

The band, whose split in 2004 came as a result of Doherty's drug addiction, recently confirmed that they are playing at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in late August.

The indie group's frontman told NME: "In all the excitement there's something quite upsetting about it. It was a big part of my life, but it's a time that was... well, it's gone, really.

"Quite a lot of our songs are born out of a lot of violent energy and a lot of bad feelings."
