Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell gave an impromptu performance at The Boogaloo after holding a press conference for journalists.
The group played an eight-song set including singles 'Can't Stand Me Now' and 'Time For Heroes'.
Speaking at the conference about their decision to reform for the Reading and Leeds festivals, Doherty said: "What's appealing about the money is what's left over after tax."
Doherty also insisted that they would not break up before the August Bank Holiday event, while Barat added: "We're all really excited to do it - we're not going to let anything silly get in the way. I think we're committed."
The group also played down reports that they would play new material at the summer shows. "It's going to be hard enough to work out some riffs from the old days," joked Doherty.
