The late superstar is joined in the honour by soul legend Aretha Franklin, who will attend the ceremony at the Harlem venue on June 14.
The 'Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award' will be presented to Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony.
The New York event will start at 6.30pm and be followed by a benefit concert, awards ceremony and grand-tented afterparty.
Following Jackson's death in June last year, mourners gathered at the Apollo, where the singer first found fame as a 9-year-old with The Jackson 5.
