Pete Doherty has revealed that The Libertines will earn over £1m for playing this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals.

The group - who originally split in 2004 - confirmed earlier this week that they have reformed for the August event.

Appearing at a press conference in London yesterday, they were quizzed about rumours that they had been paid around £1.5m to reunite, Gigwise reports.

After claiming that the figure is in fact £1.2m, Doherty said: "What's appealing about the money is what's left over after tax – which, as it turns out, it's luckily just enough to pay last year's tax bill."

The singer then laughed off a question that he could use the money to pay legal fees.
