Lydon, Westwood pay tribute to McLaren

Family, fans and former colleagues of Malcolm McLaren have paid tribute to the late pop impresario.

The former New York Dolls associate and Sex Pistols manager passed away yesterday morning at the age of 64 after a battle with cancer.

In a message on his official website, Pistols frontman John Lydon said: "For me Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that. Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you."

McLaren's former partner Vivienne Westwood added: "When we were young and I fell in love with Malcolm, I thought he was beautiful and I still do. I thought he is a very charismatic, special and talented person. The thought of him dead is really something very sad."

Journalist Jon Savage, author of 1991's punk history England's Dreaming, said: "Without Malcolm McLaren there would not have been any British punk. He's one of the rare individuals who had a huge impact on the cultural and social life of this nation."
