According to Frank Skinner, who wrote the original song with comedy partner David Baddiel and The Lightning Seeds, the Babyshambles frontman is one of the musicians involved the new track.
"I have heard rumours, yeah. There's all sort of talk going on. I heard Pete Doherty's name mentioned, even. Anyway that's probably a secret, I shouldn't have said," the comic told The Mirror
The tune, which topped the charts in 1996 and 1998, has been re-recorded by producer Trevor Horn with an orchestral backing and will feature a number of guest contributions.
Robbie Williams and Russell Brand have also been linked to the project, which is expected to be released in June ahead of England's World Cup 2010 campaign in South Africa.
