'Fool's Day' was available to buy on 7" vinyl today at independent music retailers participating in the UK's first Record Store Day.
However, its limited run of 1,000 copies soon sold out, prompting the band to consider a wider release.
"To avoid fans having to illegally obtain an inferior copy of this track from pirate sites, we have made it freely available through the band's website," said Blur's manager Chris Morrison in a statement.
The track will be available to download from www.blur.co.uk from midnight this evening.
