Ellie Goulding has admitted that she did not plan for fame.

The singer, whose debut album Lights earned her the 'Critics Choice Award' at this year's Brit Awards, claimed that her success is down to her deterimination and focus.

"I always imagined - in fact I planned - to have a job and get a house and a car because you don't really go off and become famous from Hereford in Wales," New reports her saying.

"I never thought fame was an option. But everything that has come along has helped me achieve it in some way. For example, about five years ago I woke up one morning and wanted to run. I just started running. And that helped me focus on what I wanted."

The 23-year-old also revealed that despite her fame, she is not particularly "rock 'n' roll".

"My band are all in long-term relationships and really sensible," she said. "So the most rock 'n' roll thing we do is throw fruit at the walls."
