The 'Until You Were Gone' rapper grew up in a rough area of north London, and admits that he could have easily fallen into a life of crime if it weren't for his determination and stable family.
He told the News of the World: "I could easily have been pulled into crime - and the reason I wasn't is because of how strong my mind is. My family helped a lot [too]. I saw too many bad, dark situations. I've seen friends die in front of me from violence.
"It's horrible. Seeing the worst life has to offer, it's made me determined that I don't want any children I have [to] see the things I've seen. That's why I've worked so hard to get where I am - I strive for excellence in everything I do, so that I don't have to return to that life."
Chipmunk recently revealed that he hopes to buy a school in the future.
