According to The AP, the upcoming musical is based on the rock band's 1979 album of the same name. It was also adapted into a feature film in 1982 directed by Alan Parker and starring Bob Geldof and Bob Hoskins.
"That's still very much in the cards," Waters said when asked about the stage project.
He added: "I have been working on and off for the last year or so with an English writer named Lee Hall, who has become greatly celebrated over here [in the US] and in London, because he wrote Billy Elliot, which is one of the most successful musicals out there at the moment."
Waters recently revealed that his bandmate David Gilmour blocked a full reunion of the group.
