Kele: 'I had breakdown like Britney'

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke had admitted that he suffered a major breakdown while recording his solo album.

The singer revealed that his decision to shave his head was due to stress, comparing himself to Britney Spears, who also shaved off her hair in 2007.

Speaking to XFM, he said: "I was doing a Britney. I'd had enough and I needed to start again - I was having a meltdown. I was attacking photographers with my umbrella and not being so good to myself."

Okereke also said that his new album The Boxer was inspired by dance music and his recent experiences of DJing.

He explained: "I think every album I've made is one I've wanted to make, this album represents the period last year where I was going out a lot more, DJing a lot more.

"This is what The Boxer represents; but there are other records I'd like to make which are more balanced."

The Boxer is released on June 21, with single 'Tenderoni' out a week earlier.
