Cole is currently touring with the 'Boom Boom Pow' band and has already released material recorded with Fergie's bandmate will.i.am on her deubt album 3 Words.
Regarding the possibility of Cole and Fergie working together, a source told The Sun: "Will came up with the idea after seeing how well the two have bonded.
"They've become great friends so a collaboration is a natural step. If the song is right, Cheryl and Fergie are up for it. From what Will's been saying so far, they're really keen."
They added: "It will be a sexy, sultry and ambiguous number. And given that Fergie is a huge name in the US, it could be the tune to really break Cheryl over there."
Cole recently described will.i.am as a "musical genius", while it has been claimed that the pair are working on new tracks together in a mobile studio.
